I've been to Barcelona three times and I'm ready to return!

An invitation to Girona’s Flower Festival.

Walking past the entry to History Museum of the City of Barcelona, I was swept in by the smell of flowers.  Upon entering the court yard, I was confronted by the feverish activity of about dozen people putting together the most sumptuous arrangements of flowers I’ve ever seen.  I asked the closest arranger what the occasion was and she took me to woman most fluent in English, Roser.

Notice the use of green.

Roser, who had traveled over much of the United States, explained to me that the display was intended to promote the annual Flower Festival in Girona, a city about an hour from Barcelona.  The Spring Festival takes place each June.

Pillars of flowers and fruit!

I have never seen a display so lavish, so thoughtful, so creative.  If this is a small example of what they do on a larger scale in Girona, I’d love to see it.

A nice enhancement to the architecture.

A mix of calmness and exuberance.

There’s really not much to say about these images.  I wish you could smell the flowers and stand in the cool, calm of this court yard.

I travel, I teach, I walk, I write, I draw. I spent big chunks of my life acquiring degrees, but I've learned as much from my students as I learned from my professors. I am always ambitious to learn more.
